has been to identify specific
scientists whose research was
fundamental to the introduction of
novel cardiovascular drugs into clinical
practice. A subsidiary theme has
been to examine the contribution of
academic and industrial research collaboration
to such advances, suggesting
perhaps that the current vogue of
“translational medicine” has a longer
history than is currently recognized.
